Tune into Fox 5 In NYC Tonight

Being interviewed in front of MSK. Nicole was with Sally there til midnight last night and had to be back at 9:30 this morning to follow up with the team.

All – For those in NYC, please tune into Fox 5 News tonight from 5-6pm. Earlier today Nicole, Sally and I along with other parents were  interviewed for a story on the Empire State Building declining an application to turn its lights gold one night in September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. The ESB claims that it doesn’t light for specific cancers, however HAS gone pink for breast cancer in October, another worthy cause. They also did World Cup themed colors several times last month, and have done various sporting event and corporate colors in the past.

When parents like us posted to their Facebook page earlier this week with photos of our kids asking them to reconsider their decision, the administrator of the page choice to delete them. No reply, no comment, no answer…just deleting the faces of children that are battling cancer or did battle it…some kids who lost that battle.

This post, along with a similar one before it was deleted by The Empire State Building from its page.

Word spread through Sally’s page and others. Waves of posts and photos flooded the Empire State Building’s page, with the administrator continuing to delete them to the point where the page shut down the ability to post to it last night, and refused any post containing cancer discussion. We know they are privately owned and receive tons of requests, they obviously can’t say yes to them all. They refused to change colors for Mother Theresa when she passed away, so know they likely won’t budge for us. Our hope is that we can appeal to their human side, I can’t tell you what it would mean to the kids and their families to see that the building, and NYC, stands with them. We’re not a bunch of angry people looking to fight, just exhausted parents put in the most extreme situation trying to stand up for our kids, some who may not live to see Childhood Cancer Awareness month in a few weeks. I’m sure those at the ESB would do the same if they were in our position.

Hopefully some good will come from this situation. We also hope the interview includes our heartfelt words and paints us in a positive light. We’ll share a link to the interview when posted online for those outside of the NYC area.

Please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt

Regardless of what happens tonight Sallys’ (and the other children) story finds new wings. I cannot imagine the road you travel every hour of every day. Maybe I can get the FOX outlet in Portland (OR) to pick up the story.
