One a Year

Hi all – typing this on my phone so going to be quick. Sally is doing ok. She had her 2nd X-ray today, doing an amazing job again, and results showed that the buildup of gas has lessened. Great news! Sally is getting some congestion in her lungs from the cold so is expected to get some standard symptoms like a runny nose soon.

One of our Leukemia doctors, Dr. Kobos, came by for a visit. One thing that she said that amazed me is that Sloan Kettering, who only treats cancer and is one of the largest and best institutions in the world, only treats ONE infant leukemia patient a year. One. Its that rare, have never really looked up the numbers, just did and there are only 200 cases of it nationally a year as of 2008. We knew it was rare, but not that rare. So Sally is that one patient, the only other one receiving treatment here has been receiving for over a year now.

Dr. Kobos has an 8 month old daughter and said that she thinks of Sally often. Again and again we see how much our doctors truly care for and worry about Sally. The same goes for our nurses as I say all of the time. Sally’s primary nurse has been out on vacation the entire time we’ve been here. Not only did she secretly follow this blog from Hawaii, she brought Sally a dress as a gift, pictures above. Am told some of the nurses feel guilty Sally is sick as they’re always holding and passing her around. Nicole and I doubt that, she could have caught in anywhere here, it just is what it is.

Alright, I’ve been typing this over my head as I lay next to a cute sleeping little angel, and my arms are killing me. Please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt

Hi Sally I keep thinking of my recent visit to you and watching you sleep and then observing your popularity on the 9th floor. Your Mom, Dad and the boys want you to be healed as well as the rest of us. We all pray that you will be healed! Love, Gram K

    Hey There.
Please let us know when Sally needs the next round of Platelets.
When Maryann gave, they explained that they only have a 5 day shelf life.
We didn’t know that. So if you need more, please be sure and let us know.
    Love to you all.
