Cold

Hi all – just a quick update. Late last night Sally tested positive for a cold, which she could have gotten anywhere. She was promptly relocated to a private room next door and put in isolation. This means she can’t leave the room without a mask, and that all staff/doctors/visitors must wear a yellow gown, mask and gloves when entering her room. We call these the big bird outfits. This is all done to protect the other patients on the floor, many of whom are neutropenic. One positive thing, we get our own bathroom, a first for us. Take positives where you can get them.

We went through this three months ago when this all started. Sally’s immune system was gone (which we didn’t yet know) and she got a cold, which made her extremely ill and we bought her to the ER. Having her in the hospital and knowing she has Leukemia this time will hopefully allow doctors to better address it. For me personally, it brings up memories of that terrible week when a simple cold made our little girl deathly ill.

Sally continues to be on oxygen for the PI as well that we discussed in last night’s update. Nicole has been using a blue hose that pushes out a humid oxygen and just keeps it near her face as opposed to something that lives on her face. Nicole also asked to have the morphine installed on her pole that gives lower doses that we can push a button to deliver when needed.

Being that we’ve been there for over two weeks with at least a couple more days to go, would be great if somebody could send some treats to the nurses on behalf of Sally. They’re located at Memorial Sloan Kettering, 9th Floor Pediatric In-Patient Nursing Station. They switch shifts at 7am/pm daily. Please let us know if you do send something so we can thank you.

Will update you later if anything changes. Please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt
