Freedom!

T and S

Hi all – quick update, we were able to bring Sally home today with a couple hiccups along the way. Her neutrophil count shot up from 0 to 1.6 yesterday, well past the 0.5 she needed, so her immune system is looking pretty strong right now all things considered. She was in some pain this morning, but after working with the nurses on morphine dosing, Nicole was able to get her comfortable again. They discharged her at 5:00 so I hurried up there (with a bounce in my step) and after grabbing a bunch of the bags I made my way a couple blocks to the garage. A few steps away from the ramp, I received a call from Nicole – “We were just walking out the door and they told us she needs a plasma transfusion.” Apparently this was supposed to have been done earlier, but one of the residents didn’t look at the test results until Sally was leaving.

From what we’re told, our nurse teed off on this resident for the error as she furious that we had one foot out the door and had to come back in, although Nicole and I found it humorous. Its hard to frazzle us nowadays, plus we’d rather catch it before we left than when we got home and have to come all the way back in. So Sally got her transfusion and Nicole and I ate a dinner together and chatted, realizing we hadn’t really seen each other in a week as we’re on alternating schedules with Sally. Again, I went to go get the car and this time, the medical staff felt Sally’s blood pressure was a bit high (which it was all week) so almost didn’t release her. Our new night nurse apparently went and had words with them and got them to release us. As you can see, our nurses are Sally’s protectors as well as care-givers, they treat her as if they were her own.

So we’re home, I asked my cousin Alyssa to let Thomas stay up to see her, which he was happy as could be that she was home. Will write more tomorrow, for now we’re heading to bed, all of us under one roof for the first time in a week. Good night, and please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt

So happy you made it home! Just got to read this cuz my computer froze up on me yesterday, so I was out of the loop about the soap opera of yesterday! We are praying! Jeff was here last night so we could make some plans for our trip up next week. We plan to leave on the 7th and will stop on the way and head for OP – then Sarah ‘s and Blauvelt /NYC. We are having to coordinate with the older grandkids’ schedules of availability. What a crazy world! So, the reality of being with you and getting to hug all of you is more believeable! Love, Gram K Oh, hope to get to see Sally Sr. as well!
