Eat Sally, Eat!

2013082995160605Sabres Sally Tweet

Hi all – Sally is doing great, her blood counts and mood continues to improve. Today, the staff and Nicole worked to transfer all of her IV medications to their oral versions. This is the first step in us breaking her out of here. The medical staff thinks Sally should get out of here tomorrow, however Sally still isn’t eating enough to keep herself hydrated without IV fluids. This is what happened last cycle, she recovered from the chemo and doctors sent her home based on her blood counts. We then ended up right back in here 18 hours later after she wouldn’t drink enough of her bottles.

Nicole and I have to resist the urge to rush Sally out of here before she’s ready, we’ve already been down that road once and don’t want to go through that again. The doctor who was actually on duty that day was here and told me “don’t you dare bring that girl home until she’s eating more, you know better than that now.” We’re hoping as Sally’s counts continue to climb her appetite will come with it and can get out of here this weekend. We also hope to have her off isolation tomorrow, lord knows I’m dying to take her on her laps again, and also know the staff and parents on the floor miss seeing her.

In addition to the happy picture of Sally above is a tweet that the Buffalo Sabres sent out to 160,000 followers today. The twitterverse has exploded with Sally tweets the last 24 hours as Buffalo sports fans learn of her diagnosis and want to help. The #SupportSally t-shirts are selling like hotcakes.

The boys had a fun filled day with our neighbors the Tenwinkels, who have daughters the same age. I hope that explains the confusing picture below.

The support continues to amaze us. Please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers, especially that she starts eating so we can take her home.

Matt
