Sigh…

Hi all – the day started out well at the Kabel homestead. Sally was up when I got back from a run and we got to hang out in the kitchen together while making breakfast and getting the boys read for school. She sat in her chair and did a lot of talking and smiling and was so much fun spending the morning with her. Nicole popped her in her highchair between her and Thomas and Sally managed to eat eggs, some sweet potato and some oatmeal. Only a little of each but was a small victory.

Nicole says she got a big grumpy for awhile, but after two long naps she was her cheery self again in the afternoon. I didn’t get to see her before she went to bed this evening as I did a rare Costco run. Could have used her snuggles as I was quite angry to find that somebody had hit and run our parked car at some point here in Bay Ridge. When it rains…

Today would have been Nicole’s father’s 75th birthday. Cancer took Papa, as all his grandchildren lovingly called him, from us almost two years ago. Nicole lost her sister, grandmother, uncle and father all to cancer in a short period not long ago. The De Santis side of the family has already been through so much with the disease, I know Sally’s diagnosis hit particularly hard with them having to go through this so many times. When I’m feeling down, I often think of her family and how strong they’ve been through it all, and continue to be to this day.
