Day of Bad to Good

Hi all – In short, the overall theme of our day was things went from bad to good.

1) Our morning was a rough one. First off our two goldfish, won at the local carnival by the boys this weekend, were found dead in the bowl by Nicole this morning. “What do we do?” she asked. “Just tell them, they’re not going to care.” was my confident reply. So Nicole tells the boys, and they’re upset, then she takes them into the bathroom to flush them. All hell breaks loose, William is bawling, Thomas is crying (half faking). William refuses to eat or pee, so Nicole carries him to the school bus having done neither. A little while later, after Sally had eaten, she throws up on me. Nausea is very common with chemo, even in kids. So…that was our morning.

The day turned out much better. AnnMarie (who is a PT at William’s school) and his teacher spoke to him about the fish and got him to laugh it off. Grandma Sally arrives home later with two new fish (god help me) for the boys. Nicole says Sally was very tired and took two very long naps today, good for Nicole because she got a break and got some things done around the apartment. But when Sally was up, she was in a fantastic mood. I walked in after work to her playing in her saucer, and we got to hang out a lot this evening. I even got some great belly laughs out of her, it was a fun night. So that all turned out great.

Ughhhh

2) I called JetBlue this morning to change our reservations for our Thanksgiving trip to Florida to see my parents, which we had booked just days before all this started with Sally. We decided that the boys shouldn’t miss out on it, so I called to shorten the trip and cancel Nicole and Sally’s seats as I would take them alone. Other families at MSK had told us that as long as you explain the situation and give them your doctor’s info, airlines are very good about helping families in need. So I did that, and the woman told me that they’d wave the fees, however her supervisor overruled her and took the cost of Nicole’s flight (which would have been a credit) and charged me an additional $130 to make the change. This didn’t sit right with me and after asking friends, they recommended posting a message on their Facebook page.

So I posted a message to JetBlue (who I have always loved since they first started) and several of our friends replied to it with their anger. A few hours later, Nicole received a call from JetBlue, they were refunding the charges and giving us a $250 credit for a flight. So that turned out great.

3) Everybody remember my post last night about somebody hit and running our parked car yesterday?

Nicole called me on my way home and asked if I had called the car insurance company, to which I replied in the negative. She said that meant that whoever hit our car likely took our info and handed it over to their insurance company, as our company told us there was a claim for our car being in an accident. So that will hopefully turn out great.

So overall, we netted out with a good day, and we’ll take all the good ones we can get. One of my bosses received a shipment of Purell today and handed one out to everybody in the office to help cut down on people getting each other sick for Sally’s sake. This meant a lot to me as if I get sick, then Sally gets sick, anything we can do to prevent that is worth doing.

Sally heads back into MSK tomorrow for a dose of chemo through her IV, so will be a long day. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt

    Flu Vaccine

Speaking of Purel…. Made me think of flu vaccine which MSK is pushing alot for their staff.

I learned of some important things which I believe are true – please check them out
Flu vaccine should be taken by shot not mist- People may be to stay away from Sally for a long time if the mist is used
    Please check
