Remission

Hi all – just a quick note as Sally is sleeping and I hope to join her. Nicole admitted her this morning to start cycle 2 of chemo. Doctors told us the 2nd round would likely affect Sally faster and potentially a bit more intensely. After a day where she was mostly all smiles (and even some dancing) Sally developed a fever as I was holding her this evening. I literally felt her get warmer over the span of an hour while we walked around the floor. She went to sleep soon after and they gave her Tylenol and drew cultures. I have a feeling tonight may be a rough one, hence why I’m writing this and shutting my eyes.

The good news, Sally’s biopsy came back and she is in remission! The cancer and MLL are gone for now. I say for now as the odds of the cancer coming back are much higher in infants than older kids. If Sally was 3 or older, she’d have a 90% chance of being cancer free for good. Infants however can see it return any time over the first 18 months of treatment before the risk begins to subside. So essentially, we need to take this a month at a time. The good news is the treatment working this early on is a good sign and improves her odds.

That, is the best news we could have hoped for today. Please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt

Always a good day when we get to see Sally’s smiling face:-) I know it is not the guarantee we all crave but I am still happy she is in remission. Hoping this week isn’t too brutal and you get some sleep tonight.

I will continue to pray that Sweet Sally continues to be in remission and things go smoothly through this round of chemo. I have been following Sweet Sally since I saw the post on Lauren Murphy’s website to pray for her… what a sweet, precious baby girl you have. Prayers that you and Nicole continue your strength to get you through all this….

Such a great result for her first step on your road to a healthy little nugget! Hopefully no more sad faces for a while and a lot more “da-da’s”
