Night & Day

Photo: Good morning!

Hi all – What a difference a day can make. By the time I left Sally with Nicole this evening, she had drank triple the amount of milk she had consumed the day before, and did so without any painkillers/morphine. This was likely a combination of being on IV fluids as well as her sores beginning to heal finally.  She was also smiling, clapping hands and even managed to wave good-bye to me, the first time she has ever done it.

The nurses reduced Sally’s IV intake and will continue to do so throughout the night to see if she can remain hydrated on bottles only. If so, there’s a good chance we’ll be able to bring her home tomorrow assuming her blood counts hold. As we mentioned before, we’d been giving Sally a shot at night to help her WBCs grow. Turns out they worked so well that her WBCs were way TOO high. We had to stop using the shot anyway, so her numbers were already returning to normal so shouldn’t affect our possible release tomorrow.

Nicole is on duty tonight, she and Scarlett’s Mommy were being sent dinner by our common friends Ben & Amy, since we’re both are in the hospital together. It was good timing, we were just discussing how bored we were becoming with the menu.

Hoping Sally has another good night and continues to keep drinking. Last night, Nicole cut her hair as short as she could since it continues to fall out quickly. This afternoon I asked one of the nurses to hold her so I could tidy up the room and use the bathroom. When I got back and saw her from a distance around the corner, I noticed the sudden change in Sally’s appearance over the last week for the first time and my heart sank for a split second. I had to remind myself that this is her getting better, not getting worse. Please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers.
