Last night

Hi all,

We were with Sally at MSK until just after 1am, when doctors cleared her to leave as all tests came back negative and her blood counts were where they are expected to be. She also had a 9:30am appointment for chemo, so would get to see her primary care doctors then. We got home around 2am, I got to bed around 2:30-3am but was awoken by Nicole around 4am who said that Sally had a fever. I felt her head and agreed that she was burning up. Nicole called MSK and they told her to bring her in right away, she was able to get out of the house around 5am while I stayed behind so I could get the boys up at 6:30 and off to camp/school then head into the office.

Sally was promptly admitted, she and Nicole are in the same room we were in a month ago, double the size of the room we were in a week ago which makes us happy. One of our favorite nurses is on duty and I just spoke to her to get an update, as it turns out my girls are getting some much needed sleep. Sally had around a 101 temp when she came in, she is also experiencing pain from sores in her mouth. Both are typical symptoms of chemo, she is receiving Tylenol and may get something stronger if she continues to have trouble eating. She is also on an antibiotic. Not sure why they didn’t catch the sores earlier in the night, its something we’ll have to be more aware of going forward.

As of now, Sally is expected to still receive her scheduled chemo treatment today. Her neutrophil count, which are the white blood cells that fight infection, is at zero which means she is at severe risk for infection. To be released, she will need that number to grow to .5, which will take time, likely at least a couple days.  Her platelets count has also dropped, so will likely need a transfusion, also as expected. Doctors thought she would be back in at some point, we’re happy we at least got a week together at home as a family. Right now Nicole and I are planning out the next couple of days for coverage between Sunshine and the boys, luckily we have a lot of family and friends ready to help.

Please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt

Matt – Sally and the rest of your clan are in our thoughts and prayers. I don’t think I can donate platelets but it doesn’t hurt to check and try. If you can send me the info that would be great. Stay Strong!!
