Hi all – we just wanted to share a couple quick photos from yesterday. The boys and I arrived from Florida at 2pm, AnnMarie picked us up and took us home to Brooklyn so we could grab the car and head into Memorial Sloan-Kettering. I also thought to grab a bottle of wine and throw it in a cooler with some ice packs. What would Thanksgiving be without wine?
The reunion was wonderful, we were so happy to see Sally and Mommy. Sally was tired and not feeling so great, but we did get one smile out of her. I got to see her new skill, shaking her head no. It was so cute.
The hospital set up tables for us in Sally’s isolation room with orange tablecloths and Thanksgiving napkins. They also provided crafts for the boys to do after Nicole asked if they had something to keep them busy. The food was actually really good, the turkey was juicy and the mashed potatoes creamy. We all sat and enjoyed it with the usual Kabel Family banter. I of course had to run out and get a bottle opener (totally forgot that) and Nicole and I enjoyed a “glass” of Kendall Jackson chardonnay, our favorite wine and a Thanksgiving tradition since we were dating.
Overall, it was just great being together again. We want to thank everybody for their continued love and support. Here are some photos, please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers, and pray for neutrophils so she can start feeling better and come home!

MSK set up the room for us in Sally’s isolation room. You can see our fancy wine glasses on the table.

Down on the mat with Sally, she played for a few minutes but got tired and just wanted to snuggle. I had no problem with this.

The floor’s coffee machine broke (again) so the parents of Bay Ridge got together with local stores Baby/Mama and Polsteins Hardware and bought us a Keurig to use at the hospital! They also sent us some tasty cookies. Small Town Brooklyn strikes again.

The turkey won by Thomas in a raffle. Our neighbors cooked it for us and sent some fixings, and our family dropped off some as well. Hopefully we’ll be able to enjoy it together this weekend. My mother-in-law made a Hawaiian Salad for dessert, but finished it last night. Whoops.
Matt
Sorry the turkey looked alittle sad in that tray in your fridge! But Wally cooked it with love and the boys and I were so happy to keep running the fixings up to your apartment as they were ready! Hugs to all of you, special love to Sweet Sally Sunshine! Hope your boys enjoyed the sparkling cider we left as a special treat! (that was Craig’s idea!)
So glad to hear that you were able to share some time together as a family. Here’s hoping that Sally’s numbers get better quickly!
