Hi all – One of William’s teachers, Marie Sidoti, submitted Nicole’s name and story to the Katie Couric Show for a makeover. Turns out she was selected, and yesterday a camera crew came to our home and followed Nicole and her friend AnnMarie throughout an exiting evening. A private car whisked them to Manhattan where they received a professional makeover. They then participated in a celebrity event at Lincoln Center for mothers in difficult life circumstances that focused on building their self confidence. This high profile event, Strut: The Fashionable Mom Show, was tied to NYC’s Fashion Week where they walked a runway like models, and all of it was caught on film.

Nicole and AnnMarie had a great time, I’ve included some pictures. She is expected to appear on Katie Couric’s show next week to discuss the event. Nicole wants to use this opportunity to spread awareness of pediatric cancer, which receives very little funding for research. She will not only be doing this for Sally but for Scarlett, Cami, Cannon and all the kids we’ve met at MSK battling cancer and the staff working to treat them. We’ll be sure to provide details on when it will air.

I took Thomas into the city today to watch the Bills game at McFadden’s. Over 10 years ago a friend and I got 20 people together to watch a game there. We now fill this and the bar next door to it wall to wall with hundreds of Bills fans each week. Thomas had not been since he was a baby, and couldn’t believe what his dad had created. Yes my fatherly ego ran rampant with his awe when we got to skip the long line and walk to a reserved table. We received a lot of well wishes from fans who were aware of Sally, and the bar had posters about her on the walls. It was a nice mental break for both of us, and much needed bonding time, even though the Bills blew the game at the end. McFadden’s is also where Sally’s fundraiser will be held this coming Saturday night.

Nicole and I both got our mental breaks this week, which were needed in preparation for what’s next. Tomorrow Sally will receive a very high dose of a strong chemo at MSK, they will allow this to stay and work in her body for 24 hours. The chemo is so strong that Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday will be spent pumping fluids through her and giving her meds to flush it out of her system. On Wednesday, they will surgically install her permanent feeding tube. A nurse came today to check on Sally, she will be our local point person in Brooklyn should we have any issues with the feeding tube over the coming weeks.

It’s now back to reality, these next two weeks could be rough. Please keep Sally in your thoughts and prayers.

Matt
