Sally Home

Home sweet home

Hi all – we brought Sally home today around 5pm. When leaving, Sally received an applause from all of the nurses and Nicole and I were able to offer them our thanks, especially to those who cared for her over this three week stay at Memorial Sloan-Kettering. Sally is still refusing the bottle, so she was sent home attached to a portable IV machine in a backpack that delivers fluid through the central line she has installed in her back. We have enough fluids for her until her follow up appointment on Tuesday. I’ve included a picture of the backpack below.

The boys were very excited to get Sally home, they made Welcome Home signs (pictures below) for her and were outside waiting for us when we pulled up. We quickly got back to normal with all three kids vying for our attention (especially Mommy’s) and the craziness of having all of us under one roof.

Tomorrow is Thomas’ birthday. We’re doing what Thomas wants, including me taking him and William swimming at a local pool. We’re then going to his Aunt Sabina and Uncle Jerry’s for pizza and cake, apparently Angry Birds themed. Nicole will be able to enjoy a quiet apartment with Sally for part of the day, hopefully enticing her to take a bottle at some point.

Saw this great article on us that is currently on the homepage of Buffalo.com: http://www.buffalo.com/news/blog/supportsally-help-a-small-bills-fan-recover-from-leukemia/51506

Doctors will let Sally get fully healthy before starting the 3rd cycle (of 24), which will target her spine and brain to ensure there is no Leukemia there as well. For now we’re just going to enjoy being together for the first time in three weeks. As I mentioned last time we were home, if you don’t receive an update from us, it means all is well and there’s nothing to update but will try and post some pictures to www.facebook.com/sweetsallysunshine.com from time to time.

We’re home, Scrarlett is home, Cannon’s health improved and got to come home yesterday, Cami is doing great after her bone marrow transplant. Everybody is home right now, and we couldn’t be happier about it.
